The objective of this consultation is to develop a framework for utilizing spectrum bands to extend mobile coverage via satellite, known as Supplementary Mobile Coverage by Satellite (SMCS).

This initiative is regulated by the Minister, who oversees spectrum management in Canada under the Telecommunications Act. The objectives are aligned with ensuring that all Canadians have access to high-quality wireless services, universally and affordably.
