Automotive and Mobility Compliance and Homologation
Vehicle and component homologation, e-mobility battery and charging compliance, vehicle electronics EMC and radio approval, connected vehicle cybersecurity, and aftermarket parts certification across markets.
The sector
Vehicle regulation is formal and mature. Electrification and connectivity have made it a moving target.
The automotive sector has run under type approval and self-certification frameworks for decades: UNECE regulations across much of the world, FMVSS in the US, and national schemes in China, India, Brazil, and elsewhere. Vehicles, systems, and components are homologated against detailed technical regulations covering safety, emissions, lighting, braking, and dozens of other subjects. The processes are formal, involve designated technical services and authorities, and are well understood by established manufacturers and suppliers.
What's changed is the content of the vehicle. Electrification brings high-voltage systems, traction batteries with their own safety, transport, and producer regulation, and charging equipment regulated as electrical products and as grid-connected devices. Connectivity brings radios in every vehicle and component, each needing type approval from the communications regulator in every market, and cybersecurity and software update regulation under UNECE R155 and R156. Advanced driver assistance and automation bring new technical regulations arriving on their own schedules. Suppliers of vehicle electronics, e-mobility systems, and aftermarket parts now face regulatory sets their products never carried before.
ORBIS Compliance works across the automotive and mobility sector on vehicle and component homologation, the electronics and radio approvals connected vehicles require, battery and charging compliance for e-mobility, and the cybersecurity requirements now conditioning market access.

UNECE R155 cybersecurity and R156 software update management as type approval conditions.
Not applicable.
BATTERY LIFECYCLE
Battery producer responsibility, due diligence, carbon footprint, and passport under the EU Battery Regulation and national laws.
How ORBIS is involved
Homologation expertise plus the electronics, radio, and battery set the vehicle now carries.
ORBIS supports vehicle and component homologation under UNECE and national frameworks, coordinating with technical services and authorities and providing local representation where required. Alongside it, our engineers scope the radio approvals for every transmitter in the vehicle or component, the automotive EMC evidence, and the battery safety, transport, and producer requirements for e-mobility products.
Cybersecurity and software update regulation under UNECE R155 and R156 are now type approval conditions in many markets and touch every connected system supplier. ORBIS tracks their application across markets through law impact analysis and scopes the evidence alongside the rest of the file.
Every approval sits in ORBIS Intelligent Compliance as one record per vehicle, system, or component, with change control that assesses hardware and software updates against homologation, radio, and cyber approvals together.
Questions
Automotive and mobility compliance
Our component is part of a vehicle type approval. Does it still need its own approvals?
+
Often, yes. Component type approvals under UNECE regulations exist for many parts. Any radio in the component needs communications regulator approval separately from vehicle homologation. Batteries carry their own regulation. And aftermarket sales bring replacement part rules. ORBIS maps which apply to your component.
Do UNECE R155 and R156 apply to suppliers?
+
Formally they apply to the vehicle manufacturer's type approval, but manufacturers flow the requirements down to suppliers of connected and software-updatable systems through contracts and evidence requirements. Suppliers need to be able to demonstrate cybersecurity management and software update capability for their products. ORBIS helps scope and document that evidence.
How are e-bikes and micromobility regulated?
+
As a mix of machinery, vehicle, battery, and electrical regulation that differs sharply by market. Speed and power thresholds decide whether a product is a bicycle, a moped, or something else, with very different approval routes. Batteries carry safety, transport, and producer obligations everywhere. See our e-mobility page.
