Expert Articles on Product Compliance and Regulatory Strategy

In-depth articles from ORBIS legal and engineering professionals on regulatory topics, market access, certification practice, and how to run compliance as a strategic function.

The long form

Written by the people who file the approvals, for the people who depend on them.

Expert articles are ORBIS's fuller treatment of the topics that matter to compliance teams. They're written by our regulatory lawyers and certification engineers, drawing on the work: the approvals filed, the regulators engaged, the conflicting guidance resolved, the launches protected and the ones that taught us something. Each article takes one topic and works through it properly, with the regulatory background, the practical reality, and a view on what a good approach looks like.

The audience is the compliance manager or director who needs to understand a topic well enough to make a decision, the regulatory affairs professional who wants a practitioner's perspective on a regime, and the engineer or product manager who needs to know why a compliance requirement exists and how it affects the design. We write in plain language, cite our sources, and leave the practical details in.

How we write

Clear, direct, sourced, and honest about what's settled and what isn't.

An ORBIS expert article starts from a question a compliance team actually has and works toward an answer they can use. It explains the regulation without pretending the text settles everything. It describes how authorities actually apply the rule, where laboratories and certification bodies disagree, and what we've learned from engaging regulators directly. It gives examples, anonymized where they need to be. And it says plainly when a position is still forming.

Articles reflect ORBIS's point of view. We think the future of compliance is one accountable relationship, shared information across the customer's network, and expertise made faster by an intelligent system with qualified people behind it. We argue for that view. We also try to be useful to readers who haven't decided whether they agree.

For the conversational version of these topics, the podcast covers much of the same ground. For how the ideas played out on real products, see case studies.
