Automotive Parts Testing for Global Vehicle Markets

Electrical, EMC, environmental, and chemical testing for components and spare parts that have to be accepted by vehicle markets and the manufacturers who buy them.

Automotive Parts Testing

A vehicle part is approved twice: by the market, and by the vehicle it fits.

Automotive components sit under road-vehicle requirements and under the specifications of the manufacturers who install them. A part that passes a generic electrical standard can still fail the environmental, EMC, or substance rules a vehicle program applies.

ORBIS scopes testing for the part as it will be supplied: the electrical architecture, the environment it lives in, the substances in its materials, and the markets where the vehicle or the spare part will be sold.

How ORBIS scopes it

What decides the file

  • The installed condition

A part is tested as it is mounted and powered, not as a bare module on a bench.

  • Spare parts

Aftermarket and service parts often need their own evidence, even when the original equipment was approved.

  • One plan, several readers

Regulators, customs, and the vehicle maker do not read the file the same way. We write it so each of them can.

Questions

Before you start

We sell the part, not the vehicle. Does homologation still apply?

+

Sometimes the part needs its own approval, and sometimes it is covered by the vehicle. We read the market before we assume either one.

Can we use our industrial EMC report?

+

Only where the vehicle requirement accepts that method. Many automotive programs do not.

Bring the product and the markets.

We will tell you which of this work applies, which evidence you already have, and what still has to be done before the product ships.
